Affordable Land Stewarding Opportunities & Pathways to Ownership

+ Are you facing displacement? Looking for a way to take control of your housing?

We assist East Bay residents facing displacement in converting their homes into democratically-run housing co-ops. Please write info@bayareaclt.org to tell us more about your situation.

+ Do you own property in the Bay Area and want to make sure it goes to community use?

By donating your land or home to BACLT, you can leave a legacy of permanently affordable housing for generations to come, enjoy substantial tax deductions, while challenging our runaway, speculative real estate market. To discuss a donation or charitable sale, please reach out to info@bayarea.clt.org.

+ Looking for housing?

Vacancies in BACLT homes are very infrequent, but when they happen, we send out notifications by email. Low- and moderate-income residents looking for land stewardship opportunities at one of our established housing co-ops or other co-ops in the Bay Area can sign up for our mailing list below, in the footer of our site.

+ Looking for other ways to partner with BACLT?

Learn more about our Cooperative Development education & training, check out ways to donate funds or property, or send an email to info@bayareaclt.org.

My adult son and I moved to the Brown Shingle Collective four years ago following other shared housing experiences, and after losing our home during the mortgage crisis. As a Bay Area native and a teacher working in the East Bay, I can just afford 25% of my salary towards rent, and am supported by a community of progressive and like-minded neighbors who equally share in the collective work of maintaining these affordable homes for working-class residents.

Living in a land trust cooperative made it possible for me to start a family and remain in the Bay Area, which is something very few of my peers are able to manage given the affordability crisis. And it's much more than affordable rent. I get to raise my family in a multi-generational, multi-racial community, with access to high quality public schools, libraries, and parks! I wish more people had the kind of stability the land trust has given me and my family, and hope this model keeps growing!
