City of Berkeley awards BACLT capacity building contract to support Small Sites program

In 2017, the Berkeley City Council and Mayor approved the Berkeley Small Sites program to prevent the displacement of Berkeley residents and to preserve permanent affordability in buildings with 5-25 units.

This program was passed in the wake of increasing pressures on housing and mass displacement of residents in the wake of the Bay Area Housing Crisis. The Mayor and Council members understood that in order to make the Small Sites program effective, it would need to work with local community land trusts, which specialize in the preservation of units in smaller multi-unit buildings.
