CO-OP Network

Where Collaboration Creates Sustainable Housing Impact

How Our Co-op Network Works

This page is designed to foster collaboration, innovation, and shared resources amongst cooperative groups in the Bay Area. Our members—ranging from individuals to organizations—come together to create solutions that benefit everyone. Through mutual support and the pooling of resources, we aim to create sustainable outcomes that make a positive impact on our housing communities.

Here’s how it works:

  1. Join the Network: Become part of a diverse community committed to mutual support.

  2. Share Resources: Whether it’s expertise, tools, or funding, our members offer what they can to help others succeed.

  3. Collaborate on Projects: Work together on initiatives that align with your values and objectives.

  4. Grow and Thrive Together: Relationship building – we all benefit from collective success and sustainable growth.

Co-op Network Communities

  • We are a 22- unit limited-equity stock housing cooperative established 1983 in Berkeley, CA.

  • We are a small intentional community in North Oakland. We have condos for 6 families, several shared rental units, a large common house, and plenty of outdoor space with gardens. The Northern California Land Trust owns the land we are on, and we are designated for low/moderate income families. Our community is inter-generational. Click here for more information

  • Fort Rad is a 6-room co-op and one of two houses owned by the non profit Cooperative Roots. Since 2003, we've been working to build sustainable, affordable, democratic housing cooperatives like our own. We have shared living space, meals, and participate in consensus decision-making. We do not have a landlord and are responsible for stewarding our homes and maintaining the space for generations to come. Click here for more information

We also have a community room, multipurpose room, guest room, on-site, laundry, community garden, bike shed, workshop, and children's tree house. We want people to earn 80% of median income or below. We share one potluck dinner per month, and sometimes there are occasional gatherings and foods.

The Golden Gate Cohousing project started in 2011-2012 I believe. I have shared with you our Press Release which has more detailed info. I have attached two photos of buildings and residents. You could list us as a hybrid model dewling that houses both individuals and families.

  • Crossroads Village MHA is a three-story, low-income, public-benefit nonprofit housing community consisting of 3 studios, 17 one-bedroom apartments, and 6 two-bedroom apartments. Income from three leased commercial storefronts help keep residential rents low. Gas, water, and common area electricity are paid for. There are two laundry rooms. The property is run by a board of directors elected by the membership, plus a property manager, rent bookkeeper, and a non-resident administrator.

  • Lupin Lodge is a 70-person cohousing community in the live oak woods of Tamien land, Santa Cruz mountains, near Los Gatos. We are transitioning to cooperative management. https://lupin-co-op.mailchimpsites.com/

  • 5 people cooperative household, low-impact living, permaculture principles applied on site, vegan-friendly whole foods shared meals and shopping, DIY/DIT projects and home improvement, growth, and intentional communication

  • Participating, peaceful members in mostly 1-bedroom apartments are needed to help make intelligent, fiscally responsible, timely decisions. Maintenance, mediation, and bookkeeping skills are appreciated. Enthusiasm for and experience with shared, affordable, cooperative housing that can involve nitty-gritty participation with other members is helpful. Add to that a sense of humor.

  • Founded in 1973, the 45th Street Artists' Cooperative (Emeryville Artists' Cooperative) is the City of Emeryville's first established arts organization. Visual artists, musicians, choreographers, writers, designers and fine craftsmen, many of national and international stature, constitute their membership. Over the past three decades, the Cooperative has grown from a dozen studios in one converted warehouse building to nearly 60 studios in three buildings. Today, as a non-profit, limited-equity housing cooperative, it is a national model for affordable artist-owned housing.
