Solano Ave. Co-op Apartments

In 2019, seven residents of this beautiful 13-unit apartment building located at 1685 Solano Avenue received Ellis Act Eviction notices from the building’s owners. The residents organized together and reached out to Berkeley City Council for help. After extensive negotiation and with funding from the City's Small Site Program, the Bay Area Community Land Trust was able to intervene in the evictions by purchasing the building in June 2022. All 13 units were preserved as permanently affordable housing for low-income households and BACLT will support the residents with creating a new Affordable Housing Cooperative by 2024.
